Welcome to Khe Sanh

This unique new terrain, covering 225 km2, enables players to design and run missions around Quang Tri Province, including some crucially contested locations of the war.

Featuring 2.7 million trees, buildings and objects from S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC, this large map is partly topographical and partly designed for gameplay. It features realistic scenery for Vietnam War fighting in Arma 3 with towering hills and deep valleys surrounding the Khe Sanh Combat Base.

Welcome to The Bra, Laos

This unique new terrain, covering 25 km2, enables players to design and run missions around an infamous section of the Ho Chi Minh trail in Laos, nicknamed “The Bra” by MACV SOG units, due to the road shape, viewed from the air.

  • This is enemy territory! Infiltrate the area from the US Special Forces base at Camp Striker.
  • Run covert recon patrols around the area’s 12 detailed villages north of the road.
  • Call airstrikes on PAVN convoys running supplies down the main supply route winding from east to west following the Xe Xou river.
  • Search the southern region for Base Area 316, and hidden PAVN way-stations, caves and tunnel system.
  • Seek sanctuary in the Bin Lao swamp and rescue POW’s from the fortified POW camp transporting captured airmen to the North.

Featuring trees, buildings and objects from S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC, this new map is partly topographical and partly designed for gameplay. It provides a realistic recreation of a major MACV SOG target area in Laos with detailed micro-terrain for intense close quarters battle, only made possible by the smaller map size.

Multiplayer Co-op Campaign (up to 14 players)

The year is 1968 and the Vietnam War is reaching its peak. As elite MACV-SOG reconnaissance team "Columbia", your mission is to stop the flow of materials down the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Your team must engage in clandestine operations in Laos and Cambodia, hunting and destroying the PAVN 559th Transportation Group and its numerous security units. Feel the adrenaline rush of operating deep within hostile territory while the People’s Army of Vietnam try to track, locate, and overrun your team.

Written alongside former recon team leaders from the US Special Forces elite MACV-SOG, this fully voice-acted campaign consists of 6 highly replayable co-op missions featuring dynamic difficulty and drop-in/drop-out multiplayer capability.

Although the Co-op campaign was not designed for singleplayer, progress saving has been added while playing in "multiplayer solo mode." The 1.2 update added 2 new campaign missions, and the team RTO directly calling air support during Prairie Fire emergencies in parts of the campaign.

5 Singleplayer Scenarios

For those unfamiliar with the Vietnam War, 2 new singleplayer Showcase scenarios help acquaint players with the weapons, vehicles, and equipment used during that time.

Additionally, there is a fully narrated singleplayer Showcase scenario for both PAVN and MACV that introduces players to the world of jungle combat and historic warfare.

The bonus helicopter mission “Ash and Trash” can also be enjoyed as a singleplayer scenario.

Immersive uniforms and authentic war gear

S.O.G. Prairie fire has recreated original gear and equipment from the war, using declassified intelligence documents and bring-back equipment supplied by our US Special Forces adviser team who contributed their vast knowledge and private collections to help deliver one of the most realistic recreations of equipment ever seen in a video game.

You can play in a wide range of military roles, with 65 detailed uniforms, 69 vests, 43 backpacks, 20 accessories and 69 headgear items - all with many variations.

Update 1.3 added USMC, FANK and Khmer Rouge forces and many new items of equipment.

46 new vehicles and 44 static weapons

S.O.G. Prairie Fire features 13 asymmetric factions using vehicles to wage war in the jungles, mountains, cities, rivers, and islands of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

  • 11 new MACV helicopters (CH-47A, ACH-47A, CH-34, UH34 and UH-1B, D, E and F transports, UH-1D Bushranger gunship, UH-1B, C, E and P and AH-1G gunships and OH-6A scout helicopters) versus 1 new PAVN helicopter (Mi-2 transport and gunships) with 24 variants. All helicopters have multiple armaments, textures and callsigns to further expand the variety of gameplay scenarios.

All APC’s come with multiple texture sets and highly-detailed interiors.

Along with the 300km2 Cam Lao Nam and 225 km2 Khe Sanh terrains, update 1.2 brings you an updated Mike Force mission set on the new 25km2 micro-terrain set in Laos - “The Bra”.

Mike Force
Take back Vietnam from the communists! Four specialist U.S. teams co-operate to build bases and destroy the VC in this unique, intense, persistent mission.

Vietnam has been infiltrated by communist forces from the North! Choose one of four specialist teams, and co-operate to build bases, expand capability and find and destroy the enemy in this unique, intense, combined arms, conquest mission.

To survive in the jungle, you will need food, water and medicine, tools for building, and a lot of ammo! Earn rank points and medals completing tasks in order to unlock better equipment and support!

  • Join the Armored Cavalry (ACAV) team to build Forward Operating Bases (FOB's) and run the gauntlet in truck convoys bringing essential supplies.
  • Join the Green Hornets team to transport men and materials to remote outposts or directly into a hot LZ on the battlefield, or fly Close Air Support (CAS).
  • Join Mike Force team to patrol the jungles, mountains, rivers, swamps and streets, sweeping for enemy camps and fighting positions, and garrison the FOB's when they come under relentless attack from the VC!
  • Join the Spike Team to operate deep in enemy territory, to destabilise the enemy by locating and destroying their facilities.

An intelligent AI commander ensures that no mission is ever the same in this persistent, challenging, dynamic and immersive Vietnam experience! Time to Get some!

17 Multiplayer scenarios by Savage Game Design

In addition to the co-op campaign, S.O.G. Prairie Fire adds 17 new multiplayer scenarios to Cam Lao Nam in the popular (End Game, Warlords, Zeus, and Escape) game modes created by Bohemia Interactive.

Endgame
Provides 'hybrid' gameplay - a mix of multiplayer game types: Co-op, PvE and PvP.

Two sides fight a common enemy to secure Intel - gathered by completing small objectives - to identify the 'End Game' objective. The game has 3 phases: establishing an FOB, downloading intelligence and, securing valuable schematics.

Warlords
A Sector-Control / Capture-the-Island hybrid supporting TvT, PvP, Co-op and Solo play against AI opponents.

There are three contesting factions: BLUFOR (MACV), OPFOR (PAVN) and INDFOR (ARVN). BLUFOR and OPFOR can be controlled by players, INDFOR is always AI only. BLUFOR and OPFOR start in their bases and respawn there. In every scenario, there are multiple sectors linked with each other and with the bases themselves. All sectors except faction bases are initially controlled by INDFOR. All sectors except the players faction's base are initially locked and inaccessible (zone restriction).

At the start of the game, players vote for the sector to unlock and attack via the Sector voting tab in the map screen. Players can vote only for sectors directly linked with a sector controlled by their faction (at the start it's only those connected to their faction's base). Once a sector is selected, it's unlocked and zone restriction is removed for the entirety of the game. This means that even if a faction seizes a sector and then loses control over it, the sector can be reclaimed by that faction even without being selected again.

A sector is seized when the attacking faction is the dominating presence in it's area. Seizing progress is shown by a HUD in the bottom right corner of the screen. Once the selected sector is seized, players vote for another sector, then another, until they select the enemy faction's base. If a sector is targeted and was previously seized by the other faction, a garrison of that faction will be spawned and defend the sector. This can happen only once per sector.

When a faction's base is targeted by the enemy, the members no longer respawn in the base but some distance away. After a while after the base is targeted, Fast Travel to the base is disabled as well. The game ends when either BLUFOR or OPFOR lose control of their base.

Zeus
New form of multiplayer where improvisation is the key to success.

Inspired by popular tabletop games such as 'Dungeons & Dragons', this free DLC for Arma 3 enables you to assume the role of Zeus, a game master with the ability to curate the multiplayer experience of others. Wielding an intuitive real-time editor, you can invent new stories, challenges and locations. The results are always unique dynamic combat - for both Zeus and those with boots on the ground. Your rules, your war.

Update 1.1 brings 4 new Zeus missions on the Khe Sanh terrain and Update 1.2 brings 4 new Zeus missions on The Bra terrain.

8 Community multiplayer scenarios

The awesome Arma 3 community has already adapted S.O.G. Prairie Fire into 8 outstanding multi-player scenarios. These are instantly available in the new multiplayer menu. Find out which is your favorite.

COMMUNITY KP Liberation
Embark with your teammates on a persistent campaign that lasts for several weeks of real-time play to liberate the area.

Your squad (max 34 players) is being sent into the area to free its cities from enemy oppression. Organize your army and take up your post, including Commanding Role, MedEvac, Pioneer and many more. Once you arrive at the target area, use the building menu to design and build your first FOB and make it ready for action!

  • Take small towns and fortified military camps to weaken the enemy's superiority and capture radio towers to disrupt the enemy's radio traffic and cut off reinforcements.
  • Be warned: if there are too many civilian casualties or destroyed houses, the population can turn against you and make life harder with IEDs or guerrilla fighters. Establish a good relationship with civilians by offering medical assistance and sparing their homes - they might provide useful information and their guerrilla fighters will come to your aid.
  • The enemy is never inactive: Always keep an eye on their aggressiveness, because a more alarmed enemy will increase it's presence in settlements and the strength of their vehicles. To stop your advance, they will also use air support or attack your already-captured places, or even your FOB.
  • If his aggressiveness is too great, you will have to weaken him in other ways. Take prisoners and question them in your FOB or find enemy Intel in areas you have captured. Use these Intel points to destroy secondary objecives. Blow up an enemy FOB, destroy an enemy convoy and grab everything they had, or rush to a helicopter crash site to bring back the reconnaissance reports and friendly pilots safely.
  • You'll need vehicles for your mission. Build production facilities in cities and order them to produce ammo, fuel or supplies.
  • Transport these manually or via the logistics system to an FOB of your choice to buy ground and air vehicles, or AI troops.
  • You can also command your support troops via the HighCommand module, which allows you to play the mission as a strategy game.
  • If you have AI mortars or artillery stationed in your FOB, you can use the Command Menu to call fire support while you are in the field.

COMMUNITY Antistasi

COMMUNITY Patrol Operations
A dynamic mission generator with random objectives designed for combined-arms co-operative tactical gameplay by larger groups of players.

Patrol Operations is a co-operative mission set on various maps, configured for different sides, with diverse, randomly-generated tasks. Players must work as a team to engage in tactical missions scaled in difficulty with player count. Task locations, enemy forces and scenarios are randomised to ensure players have an interesting experience every time the mission is replayed.

COMMUNITY King of the Hill
An objective control mission featuring the entire arsenal of ArmA 3 weapons, gear and vehicles which is accessed through a persistent levelling and monetary system.

The mission features factions of BLUFOR, OPFOR and Independent struggling for control over objectives by using all means available to them including Infantry Weapons, Ground Vehicles, Tanks, Helicopters and Jets. The persistent experience and monetary system balances the availability of heavy weaponry and vehicles. Levelling up rewards players as they unlock new vehicles, equipment, and gear. Players care about survival of in-game assets bought with hard-earned in-game money. Perks also help players tailor their play style and can be used to aid their team or for personal advantages.

The in-depth reward system registers each hit on enemies and points for assisting in a kill are rewarded when the target is finally eliminated, ensuring that everyone receives credit for their contribution. Levelling is achieved by killing players or supporting the team in many ways - rewards scale with task difficulty: A dangerous helicopter insertion into the capture zone will reward the pilot more; supportive players are rewarded for reviving their team-mates; players being revived are rewarded for their patience to get back into the fight.

Levelling enables access to more weapons and scopes, perks, and gear sets ranging from Rifleman to Ghillie suits and Officer uniforms which players can switch to at any time to suit their needs.

COMMUNITY co10 Escape
Your squad was captured by the enemy and now you have to escape! Hardcore COOP with high replay value.

Starting as a captive in an outdoor temporary prison. Armed guards of the local forces are watching your every move while waiting for enemy officers to arrive for your questioning. Since the guards that captured you by now know too much of your mission, you are already treated as a high priority target. At best you will be treated as a Prisoner of War, but having heard of the enemies interrogation methods, you suspect that questioning will not follow conventional methods. The value of the intelligence you have, will be of enormous importance for the upcoming operation, so you surely want to keep your eyes open for a chance to escape. Maybe you will have your window of opportunity. Is that a backpack hidden under some moss?

In this mission you and your squad was sent out to scout the enemy military presence in the region in preparation for a large-scale offensive. Your squad was captured by local collaborators. Friendly insurgents managed to hide a backpack with weapons in the prison. Your task is now to overwhelm the guards, escape the prison, find a map of the region, make contact with allied forces, reach the designated evacuation zone and ESCAPE!

The mission is fully dynamic: every replay is different. Also the mission is hard to beat completely. You will most likely fail at the first try, but the mission is meant to be played more than once.

ALiVE is a whole map, full scale, dynamic persistent battlefield mission mod for Arma 3. This easy to use modular mission framework provides everything that players and mission makers need to set up and run realistic military operations in almost any scenario up to Company level, including command, combat support, air taskings, service support and logistics.

AI Commanders automatically plan and direct missions for all AI forces across the Area of Operations, identifying strategic objectives and reacting to changes in the tactical situation. The revolutionary Virtual Profile System can support thousands of units operating simultaneously across the map with minimal impact on performance. The result is a realistic and constantly changing battlefield which truly brings Arma 3 ALiVE.

COMMUNITY Force Recon (MACVSOG)
A dynamic mission generator with random objectives designed for combined-arms co-operative tactical gameplay by larger groups of players.

This 8-player co-operative community mission is a Prairie Fire conversion for the Force Recon mission designed and published by Vertexmacht for their Global Mobilization Creator DLC, which is also required to play the mission.

Community workshop mods and missions - singleplayer and multiplayer

One of the things that makes Arma 3 so special is its modding community, supported by tools and a powerful 3DEN editor created by Bohemia Interactive. Over the years since S.O.G. Prairie Fire released, the team has been constantly impressed by the quality of user-created missions on the Steam workshop.

Original Soundtrack

S.O.G. Prairie Fire features an integrated soundtrack including 14 awesome rock and blues tracks composed for the game by originalsas. Playable in vehicles or on the FM radio, these kick-ass guitar-heavy tunes take you way back to the crazy days of 1960s Nam.

Composed with authentic Vietnamese instruments, 21 cinematic tracks by FabianKreutzerSound augment the beauty of the Vietnamese and Laotian landscapes. As you stalk the jungles at night, or patrol villages at sunset these original atmospheric tracks can give your missions added depth and impact.

The Original Soundtrack is also available to buy and enjoy separately from the game. Some of the proceeds will be donated to the Special Operations Association for veterans support work.

To bring this fascinating period of history to life, every sound has been crafted to improve the experience of close-quarters fighting in steaming jungles. You will hear enemies whisper as they approach in the dark, or yelling as they rush to overrun you. The immersive medical system adds wounded enemies calling out, and dark humour shared by wounded soldiers.

The extensive recreation of every weapon, explosion, bullet crack, vehicle, and footstep sounds creates an immersive and unforgettable feeling for players. To complement the sounds of battle, many new special effects have been added to deliver a truly kinetic battlefield experience. Even outside of combat, experience the ambience of the jungle as it comes alive with realistic sounds of wildlife, weather and disturbed vegetation.

Bonus content for creating your own immersive Vietnam war missions

S.O.G. Prairie Fire is complemented by a wide range of additional content, usable only when the DLC is loaded. This includes:

  • a Master Arm module for servicing and arming aircraft
  • a Logistics module for transporting items and casualties
  • a completely new voice-acted Battlefield Revive system
  • a Tunnel module for easy creation of tense underground missions
  • a Vietnam-era Artillery and Air support module to quickly call support from actual US callsigns
  • a quick-to-enable earplugs system
  • a vehicle jukebox
  • a melee system for close-quarter fighting
  • tree platforms and foxholes that enable soldiers to hide above or under ground

Also available are objects to support third-party game modes, like Mike Force , which include over 100 food, drink, and medical items (cosmetic props by default) and over 150 partially built buildings and fortifications for use in a dynamic building system. There is also full support for the popular third-party Task Force Arma Radio and ACRE radio mods.

CHANGELOG

Since releasing S.O.G. Prairie Fire in May 2021, the team has been monitoring feedback from players in our wishlist and especially in our feedback tracker and we are very grateful for all the detailed feedback, bug-reports and suggestions that have been submitted.

The team has completed approximately 100 feedback tickets in Update 1.3. There is a detailed list of the changes available here.

The Prairie Fire Wiki has also been updated with all the new classnames.

The team is constantly motivated and moved by the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the player base, and we have more plans for the future - with news on this expected soon - stay tuned!
